This past month, we observed three events that called upon staff and students to reflect on sacrifice and hardship and to express gratitude and compassion for the contributions of others.

On November 8, our district marked to honour the contributions of Indigenous Peoples to the Canadian Military. On November 11, SD8 marked to honour Canadians past and present who have fought for Canada. On November 16 we paused to acknowledge Louis Riel鈥檚 historic importance as a leader for the M茅tis people on . Finally, all through November our staff, students and school communities celebrated the beautiful culture and contributions of the M茅tis people during .

Throughout our schools in SD8, educators, staff and students are working together with our Aboriginal Education leaders to support student success for Indigenous students and further Reconciliation. In this December report, you鈥檒l see examples of ways school communities mark important occasions as well as day-to-day events tied to the primary goals of education: success for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and action toward Reconciliation, and the realization of each child鈥檚 intellectual, human and social, and career development so they can become .

We have so many interesting and important education events ahead of us in the new year and concerts and events to enjoy in the coming weeks leading into the winter holidays. I send my warmest wishes to you and your families. You each have my gratitude for supporting education in SD8.

Sincerely,

Trish
